Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Local E-Board has voted to provide each member with a $50 Market Basket gift card as a gesture of support during this difficult time. We know how challenging and uncertain things can feel as the government shutdown continues, and we want to remind you that you are not alone. This Local stands with you, and together, we will get through this.

Message from AFGE National President

This week, Congress pushed our nation into the fourth week of a full government shutdown – an avoidable crisis that is harming families, communities, and the very institutions that hold our country together. Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight.

Members, Loaves and Fishes have kindly designated a special day for FMC Devens every Wednesday, starting October 29th, in addition to the regular pantry hours, for those who may not be able to come on Wednesdays. Paperwork will be available in the front lobby for your convenience. You will need to bring your completed form to pantry to complete the sign up. Federal Employees Welcome.

As the government shutdown continues, we want to clarify what the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019 means for you. As the law reads now, it guarantees that all federal employees—whether furloughed or working without pay—will receive full back pay once the government reopens. This law does not expire and applies to the current shutdown.

A Ninth Circuit panel’s decision to allow the orders during litigation could set a precedent for government retaliation cloaked in “national security.” A full court review may be on the horizon.

I want to take a moment to reassure you that your union is still here, standing with you through this shutdown. These are hard times and troubled waters, but we have been here before, and each time we have come out stronger than ever , and we will again.

We need to stay united and lean on each other, because we know the agency is not going to be there for us in the same way. Together, we can weather this storm.
